About the CLAY Six-Year Curriculum
CLAY Student Leadership Six-Year Curriculum provides leadership and life-skills training for students and their families from 7th-12th grade. Each of 84 leadership courses helps students identify, learn and apply leadership values.
Program Objectives
As part of the program students:
- Share thoughts and feelings in each class
- Learn to process information to assist them in making positive life decisions
- Recapture their dreams and goals
- Leave with a new outlook towards life, parents, teachers, and themselves
- Move from dependent decision-making to independent decision-making skills
Core Components
Bi-Weekly Classes
Students meet bi-weekly to learn a leadership value that serves as a foundation for healthy decision-making
Consistent Mentorship
Trained course facilitators offer consistent mentorship through a leadership life-model dedicated to reaching and caring for each student
The Unchangeable Truth
A simple, fundamental principle that must be applied in order for each leadership value to have significance
Music
Incorporated in each presentation as a universal language to affirm each leadership value
Journey
Students reflect on what they learned, set practical action-steps, and express where they are in life
Action Steps
Students determine action steps to apply each leadership principle
Parent University
Leadership-training seminars and team-building activities designed to engage parents with their child and school administration
Tools
Each leadership unit, which includes one full school year, comes with a facilitator manual, student handouts and journey sheets designed to achieve program objectives
